It is bewildering watching a nation rush headlong into the past. Pundits and politicians whipping up a populace that is oddly nostalgic for healthcare that costs more per capita than any other developed nation and is profoundly inadequate by most measures of quality and access. This peculiar desire reveals an utter paucity of understanding of what it means to be sick, and what it means to provide healthcare for a nation.
