ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am a Pediatric Critical Care physician, ethicist and physician executive who is currently working as a consultant guiding health systems and physician groups toward value-based care. My academic training includes a BA in Philosophy from Michigan State University, an Master’s in Biology and MD from Wayne State University in Detroit. I then completed my Pediatrics training at the University of Michigan and training in Pediatric Critical Care at the Children’s National Children’s Medical Center in Washington DC. Recently, I obtained an MBA from California State University – Sacramento.
I am the author or co-author of 28 journal articles and six book chapters on topics ranging from basic and clinical science to publications on bioethics, law and medicine, and healthcare finance. Recent publications include articles on health care financing, and book chapters on legal issues in medicine and medical decision making.
At different times in my life I have been a research scientist, ethicist, and healthcare executive, but always a doctor. As a doctor I have seen the struggle of patients seeking care, and the mistakes, unintentional cruelty and waste that is healthcare in our country. What drives me is the need to play a role in transforming medicine in this country. My other passions are sailing, cooking, writing and family.
